Apparel Production Systems
The apparel production varies according to the type, quantity and versatility of products. The products are as simple as a simple t-shirt which can be completed within 6 operation steps and my go up to 100 steps to complete a fashionable garment. Therefore, the apparel production systems may be simpler and complex at the same time. The choice of a suitable production system depends upon the investment in production lines and the supply of cut parts into the production system.
In the
mass production in the apparel industry, the garments are produced of different sizes for a particular design. The process of workflow design is of utmost importance, in which the time allocated for each process step involved in garment manufacturing has been carefully studied for smooth planning. The main aim of the production is to the identification of bottlenecks in the process and their prompt rectification. The time and motion study and other features of industrial engineering are used for smooth process management, which is explained in another course within the scope of the ICT-TEX project. We will mainly focus in this lecture on the types of production systems used in apparel production.
In the mass production of the apparel industry following production systems are in practice.
- Progressive Bundle system
- Unit Production System
- Modular Production System
