Welding Fundamentals
Welding is the firm bonding of two or more layers of material or one part with itself (cylinder formed) the same or different materials using under the influence of heat and pressure.
The welding procedure is carried out without the use of any external materials in the joint zone, unlike sewing where needle thread is used in the joining zone. The The welding technologies have certain requirements which must have to be fulfilled for successful bonding.
- manmade materials with thermoplastic properties
- textile materials with thermoplastic surface treatment (e.g. coating)
Due
to local heating of material melting/ welding temperature, the original
material structure of the polymer is solidified in the seam area. As a results
within the seam area, the material behaves differently than the rest of
material.

Principle of Welding
It is important to understand that welding seams can not be unpicked like in sewing and simply welded again at the same position. Therefore, knowing the right welding parameters for material is important prior to the welding process. There are different welding technologies that are used to join layers of materials.
