What is CAD in the fashion industry?

Computer Aided Design (CAD) is the use of computer technology for the process of design development / collection development: fashion sketches, flat drawing, 2D pattern making development, 3D visualization of the fit accuracy, marker planning.

Links to clothing CAD systems:

  • High degree of functionality and flexibility
  • Accuracy
  • High memory capabilities
  • Fast data transfer
  • High productivity: obtaining a rich variety of models in clothing
  • The possibilities for experiments in performing specific tasks are significantly increased
  • The use of scripts allows to reduce the routine work at the expense of stimulating creativity
  • Shortens the long phase of design, presentation, discussion and approval of entire clothing collections
  • The communication between the designer, the client and the production company is improved
  • Graphic apparel systems support multilanguage and offer convertor modules that ensure data compatibility with other CAD / CAM / SAE solutions in the garment industry
